Day 1 Wednesday Oct 12, 2016 OH to VA

Beginning a new adventure is always stressful, especially when we will be away from home for several weeks.  What do we take?  What did we forget?  Are the lights all out, water turned off...is it ready for the house sitter.

Any way, it felt good to have everything in order and ready to twist the key in the car at 8:30am, looking at a 6 driving hour trip to western Virginia, the first leg of a three day hop to Florida.  First stop is to take the perishable trash to the neighbor around the corner on our country road.

Neighbor Dave accepts our trash every trip we take.  Thanks Dave and Sue!!!

It was cool this morning, but the sky was clear with a few wispy clouds.  The beginning of fall and the prettiest most colorful time in Ohio.  A shame we have to leave now, but the rewards down the road are worth the trade off.

Color is just coming on in the trees in Medina County, OH
We drove two lane roads for the first couple of hours, going through Orrville, OH, home of Smuckers Jams and Jelly etc.  This is Amish country and many buggies were bringing families to work, school and town.

The buggies are always fun to see, but important to make way for.  The Amish always waved at our little car.

After a couple of hours we finally made it to Interstate 77, set the cruise control at 70 and southbound we went.  (Yes, we wimped out and installed an after market cruise control a few years ago--it makes interstate highways much easier to drive)

By noon we were in West Virginia and found a nice rest stop near Mineral Wells to eat the packed lunch Sally made for us.  Other Morgan owners always remark about people being attracted to our cars... and today was no exception. While prepping for lunch the Rest Area manager came out to see the car, went back to his office to look up "Morgan" on Google, then came out to take a photo and talk about the V6 Ford engine that my car features.  He said he has seen many varied and unique cars in the rest area over the time he has worked there.

Just about four o'clock we pulled into our first overnight stop, Wytheville, VA, where I-77 joins up with I-81.  Lots of hotels here at the interchange so the rates are fair.  Total travel time about 7 hours.  We found a BBQ restaurant down the street for a quick dinner, then back to the room to finish this blog post and be ready to turn in early.

On to Savannah, GA tomorrow.
