Day 3 Friday Oct 14 GA to FL - Winter Haven and Mog South

The last leg of our trip to Florida, before we get down to some playing, began before sunrise as we loaded up and fiddled with the cars.

Andy Leo finds fixin's for his wind wings.

The GPS said the drive today would be five hours. down I-95 to Daytona, then I-4 through Orlando and on to Winter Haven. Looks simple on the map, but the traffic got worse and worse the further south we went.  We arrived about 7 hours after starting.  A long and sometimes difficult day.

Andy's little 4-4 is dwarfed by the great number of semi's on the interstate.

We had an interesting fly-over by some low flying military planes from a nearby airfield.  Initially shocking by their sudden appearance and low flight, then beautiful in their elegance, banking and turning immediately over us.  It happened so quickly there was no time to grab the camera.  Then they were gone.

Aside from the reflection on the windshield we tried to capture a photo of the Spanish Moss hanging from the trees.

Arrival at the Hampton Inn, Winter Haven.
On the way to Florida we left the tops (hoods) on the cars to buffer the wind and noise from the interstates.  Morgan's can be quite loud in traffic at speed.  Tomorrow the top comes down for cuising the two lanes and side roads of Florida.

MogSouth, the gathering, began with a very nice Welcome Party at the Home of Tom and Kathy Coryn, located on a good sized lake in Winter Haven.

Coryn's lakeside home in Winter Haven.

Parking extended down the driveway.

We all gathered on the screened in porch for refreshments and catered dinner.

Nice night for party.
In all, it was a great day of touring, a bit over 300 miles from Savannah to Winter Haven, nice gathering of cars and friends as they mostly arrived between 3 and 5pm.  Then a superb party at the Coryn's.

There is lots more to do in the next seven days.... stay tuned for more about it.

Car show tomorrow.
